Ed Bott writes about the issues and potential pitfalls that can happen when getting a CableCARD up and running. The problem seems to be the many elements involved in getting the system up and running. What interested me most is the idea that Ed has about a Windows powered headless device something we talked about when I interviewed Ed on the show
In the short term, I think the best way to solve this issue is for someone, maybe even Microsoft, to create a Windows-powered device that’s designed and built from the ground up to be a digital media device: headless, quiet, packed with storage, with all drivers and firmware installed from the start, and not intended for use as a general-purpose PC. Hmmm. Maybe I need to start a company.
I love how easy a DVB-T install is, just plug the tuner stick in USB and 5 minutes later it’s ready to go and I guess for main stream adoption CableCARD needs this level of simplicity
